How to Be a Great Guide, No Experience Required

In 2022, C-LAB launches its annual exhibition entitled The Unrestricted Society. Its theme revolves around the rapid development of technologies experienced by contemporary people and the conveniences and impacts they have brought. Through artistic vocabulary, topics such as algorithms, digital privacy, facial recognition, deepfake technology, cultured meat, cryptocurrency, and the metaverse were explored in-depth. Prior to its opening, a co-learning guide training program was organized. Starting from “reading” about this exhibition, participants interested in serving as art and cultural guides were led through a step-by-step dismantling of this exhibition, building awareness of the issues it addresses to apply to their subsequent guide practices.

Cultural experimentation anticipates a disobedient attitude that facilitates cultural reversion and creative collision. When experiments become an attitude, a wide spectrum of cultural initiatives and fresh paths will unfold and extend like water, shock, sonic, light, or electric waves.
