C-LAB Architecture Guided Tour

C-LAB’s location was once a military base. Before that, this site was home to the Taiwan Provincial Government’s Central Research Institute at Da’an, which took over from the Japanese colonial era Industrial Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office. In 1949, it became the Ministry of National Defense’s Air Force Command Headquarters. Within this site is hidden the trajectory of Taipei’s modern industrial and military development. It was veiled in mystery due to its high outer walls that were constructed to protect its military secrets in the past. Since its inception in 2018, C-LAB has continued to research the history of this site, inviting YANG Ning-Yao to lead the C-LAB Architecture Guided Tour which traces this site’s past through visits to the Military Band Office, Old Office Building (formerly the Industrial Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office), US-Aid Building, Communications Office, Zhongzheng Hall, and Political Warfare Building, as well as to bunkers and air-raid shelters.
