2020 Play Arts—Eye Contact - Transformation
PLAY ARTS differs from other summer art festivals. C-LAB, located near the heart of Taipei City, was once a restricted and solemn military command post. In 2018, it became a venue for artistic experimentation. This year, the outer walls along Renai Road were torn down, and the landscaping has created a park-like setting. Once sealed off from the public eye, this site has since moved to the other end of the spectrum, becoming a cultural base that welcomes all.
Of course, many people are curious as to the changes brought about by the tearing down of the walls and if it is possible for public art and cultural spaces to be truly accessible. These are the starting points for this year’s PLAY ARTS.
