Report of the Industrial Department, Central Research Institute of the Governor-General’s Office of Taiwan

In 1921, the “Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office” was renamed the “Central Research Institute of the Governor-General’s Office of Taiwan.” It has jurisdiction over the Agricultural Department, Forestry Department, Industry Department, Health Department, and General Affairs Division. There were eleven locations throughout the island using scientific researches, investigation and analyses towards agriculture, breeding and bacterial research bringing colonial modernization. The continuation of the industrial policy for The Industrial Department of the Central Research Institute of the Governor-General’s Office focused on three major areas including the chemical industrialization, the chemistry of brewing and fermentation as well as the testing and identification of industrial materials. The Industrial Department of the Central Research Institute also helped the development of the ceramic industry, the sugar industry and the anhydrous alcohol process in addition to the development of chemical fermentation processes such as plant essential oils and butanol fermentation bacteria. This research report was published in 1936 (Showa 11).
